Thank you for visiting our webpage. This has been setup to follow the progress of “The Crosweller LEJOG” taking place in August 2008. It involves Owen, Sian and Huw Crosweller doing the infamous cycle ride from Lands End to John O’Groats (and yes, that means it is all uphill going that way!!)

We are doing this in memory of Alan Crosweller, our father, who sadly passed away in August 2007 after battling with cancer. It all started in 2003 when he had a melanoma removed from his back. However, he recovered well and so it was a shock when he’d almost reached his 3 year “all clear” point but they found the melanoma had come back, this time on his epiglottis. Again, an operation to remove it went well, but sadly a year later the cancer returned, and this time it had moved to his brain. After yet more surgery, and eventually radiotherapy, he sadly passed away. At only 59 years old this was a great tragedy. He had worked so hard throughout his life, mostly for the Inland Revenue, and to be taken from us only 6 months before reaching retirement age, when he would have finally been able to enjoy the fruits of labour, was particularly cruel. But life goes on for some, although those who knew him will never forget him and the joy and kindness he brought to their lives.

Certainly in periods of Alan’s life he was a fairly keen cyclist, so it seems fitting to attempt a cycling challenge in order to raise money in his name. We are raising money for 2 charities: Marie Curie Cancer Care and the Myfanwy Townsend Melanoma Fund (see links to their pages on the left). We have chosen these two as their work focuses on two different areas. Marie Curie provided care at their Penarth hospice for Alan in the last week of his life. The care and support they give there, all free of charge, to both patients and relatives is outstanding, and all the more welcomed at such a difficult time. The Myfanwy Townsend Melanoma Fund does research specifically into cancer arising from melanoma, along with awareness raising activities. Melanoma, unless caught very early, usually results in death. Therefore, reducing the number of incidents in the first place is crucial, along with trying to find a cure for those unfortunate enough to suffer it. So please go to one of our individual pages to make a donation to these very worthwhile causes.

On a more ‘light-hearted’ note, you can follow the link to ‘The Ride’ where you will find more details of the route we will be taking, and where we hope to update a diary of our progress once we get going en route. There is also a ‘Latest News’ section where we will keep you up to date with our progress in the build-up to the LEJOG, such as our training rides, additional fund raising events, etc.

 Thanks for visiting.
